Psalm 95
- 1 Let us shout for joy to the LORD!
- Hail the Rock of our salvation!
- 2 Let us come before him with gratitude,
- with psalms cheer him.
- 3 For the LORD (YHWH) is a great God,
- is a great King above all gods.
- 4 He holds in his hands the depths of the earth,
- and the mountain peaks belong to him.
- 5 The sea belongs to him, is he who made ;
- land and his hands have shaped.
- 6 Come, let us bow down, bow down to us,
- kneel before the LORD, which we did.
- 7 For he is our God,
- and we are the people of his pasture,
- the flock of his hand.
- If you listen now!
- 8 Do not be stubborn as at Meribah,
- as on the day of temptation in the desert,
- 9 where your fathers provoked me
- test me in, although they have seen my share.
- 10 For forty years I have had this generation in disgust
- and I say: This is a people whose heart is lost;
- they do not know my ways.
- 11 So I swore in my wrath
- In no case shall they enter into my rest!
This psalm singing is offered as an introduction of the first office hours in the Catholic liturgy. Thus it is chanted every day not only by monks and nuns, but also by the clergy and all those who practice prayer hours.
For my part, I love this psalm that I alternate with three others: the Psalms 66.99 and 23.
